Compressed air is used as one of the main sources of energy in the chemical and process industries. Therefore, air system reliability and efficiency are essential to achieve the high quality standards that these sectors demand. DSD and ESD series rotary screw compressors from Kaeser Kompressoren are specifically designed to meet these requirements and provide highly efficient, modular compressed air solutions that are individually tailored to each application. DSD and ESD series screw compressors are suitable for air deliveries from approx. 13 to 42 m³/min (at 7.5 bar) and offer all of the advantages that modern compressed air technology has to offer: They are highly energy efficient, require minimal maintenance, provide outstanding reliability and are exceptionally quiet. Sound levels are approximately 10 dB (A) lower than comparable conventional compressor systems, which means that DSD/ESD models are in fact 90% quieter. Furthermore, each DSD/ESD unit features Kaeser’s 1:1 direct drive, where the motor and airend are directly linked via a special coupling. This not only eliminates the transmission losses associated with normal gear- or belt-driven systems, but also considerably reduces energy consumption and maintenance requirement. In addition, a highly effective ventilation system enhances cooling efficiency: The cooling system is equipped with an innovative radial fan which draws cool ambient air in through the cooler. This system prevents the cooling air from being pre-warmed and, as a result, optimises the cooling effect; sound levels are also further reduced. The internal PC-based “Sigma Control” compressor controller is fitted as standard on both compressor models and is able to display information in any one of 30 selectable languages. This user-friendly controller allows greater energy saving potential, reduces maintenance requirement and increases compressor system reliability and availability. The “Sigma Control” also enables direct communication with the “Sigma Air Manager” (SAM) compressor management system. The SAM provides seamless interaction between all components (up to 16) in the compressor system and offers complete air cost transparency. Moreover, the compressors can be easily integrated into an existing control system via the “Sigma Control”, which also enables system access via Kaeser’s Teleservice facility.
In certain applications, the use of electronic variable speed drive, such as Kaeser’s “Sigma Frequency Control” (SFC) for example, can provide significant advantages. A total of 5 SFC-equipped models are available and each is able to precisely match compressor performance to meet actual demand.
