PET packaging production is highly demanding for compressed air supply systems, as the air has to be available at the required quality and quantity at all times. This should also be achieved as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible. ‘Sigma PET Air’ system solutions from Kaeser have therefore been especially designed for this purpose and deliver an application-specific source of quality compressed air with optimum performance. The blow-moulding process by which PET containers are produced requires compressed air at pressures ranging from 15 to 43 bar (g) depending on the particular product. A further supply of air at 7 to 10 bar (g) is needed to operate the pneumatic cylinders and conveying systems. ‘Sigma PET Air’ systems are able to provide both air supply demands with maximum efficiency. In a typical system, a rotary screw compressor (or several, depending on the size of installation) delivers all of the compressed air at the required pressure for the so-called ‘low-pressure’ stage, which is needed for the works air. The remaining air is compressed still further via a booster compressor (or several) and is used in the ‘high-pressure’ stage for the blow moulding process. After passing through downstream refrigeration dryers and various micro-filters, both air supplies meet compressed air quality requirements in accordance with ISO 8573-1. The system is complemented by buffer air receivers for both pressure stages, comprehensive condensate treatment and a electric control cabinet for fully automated operation. With the exception of the rotary screw compressor and the low-pressure buffer air receiver, all ‘Sigma PET Air’ system components are mounted on a base frame complete with all wiring and piping and are ready for immediate operation. This enables the system to be fully tested at the factory before despatch and ensures ease of installation upon delivery at the customer’s location. ‘Sigma PET Air’ systems require low investment cost and provide outstanding reliability. The combination of highly efficient rotary screw compressors, 1:1 direct drive and single stage compressed air boosters significantly reduces energy consumption, which in turn leads to considerably lower operating costs. The compressed air quality from all ‘Sigma PET Air’ systems is tested and certified by the German Technical Inspectorate Body, TÜV.
